Rose Parade Route Cruise 12/31

Arrived a little after 7:30 at the Corner Bakery parking lot in Hastings Ranch to find Peter Roses, Steve Gerow, and Jack Gies, with their cars, parked and already checking out the other classics. I parked next to a Blue over White 3000 that I didn’t recognize. It belong to a non-member, Jonathan Holmes, who lives in Pasadena and plans to join the club.

George McHarris and George Merino arrived within minutes of each other. Merino in comfort, his Lotus Elice, and McHarris in his 100-4 with windshield up and car bra on for the freeway trek. Next into the parking lot were Phil Caliva, in a recently purchased Ford pickup, Chuck Lakowski in his Jensen Healey, Mike Biss in his 100-4, and brother Tom in his MGB. This group had made a stop at Santa Anita racetrack to check out the Horseless carriage car show. When everyone was gathered, we moved into the bakery for breakfast.

While we were eating, Dan Burrola rolled in with his MkIII followed shortly by a black over red Healey driven from Camarillo by member Frank Powell.

More picture taking, more storytelling, and just more cars arriving continued until about 9;30 when a police siren announced it was time to cruise Colorado Blvd. We headed out with Peter in the lead going West into Old Town, where we started losing people. George McHarris turned off at Lake Ave to meet friends, Steve Gerow headed home to Altadena, and George Merino parked, took out his lawn chair and settled in to watch the other cars roll by. The rest of us then drove down into the Arroyo and passed the Rose Bowl. We returned to Linda Vista and turned onto Lida Street into the hills until we reached Chevy Chase Drive. Here the group split up with some heading north to La Crescenta and the 210 Fwy and others turning south to Glendale and the 134 and 5 Freeways. A nice start to the New Year.
