One Sunday of the year, the first Sunday in December, this car gathering gets a new name: Motor4Toys. This is one of the largest toy collection events in the automotive world of Southern California. A huge army of volunteers is joined by an even larger army of car lovers who open their hearts and wallets to help make a child’s Christmas a little brighter.
I met up with club members Phil Caliva and Greg Aden along with a group of their South Bay friends who had stuffed Phil’s pickup and other cars with gifts galore. We were part of an event that not only brings out car lovers showing off their cars but vendors with everything you need for your classic and new car dealers with the latest street-legal racing machines.
We all took a tour through the parking lot that was filled with everything from new Alfa’s and McLaren’s to a 1910 delivery wagon for Grandma Mary’s Dairy, to a stunt car from “Death Race”. After delivering all our toys to the collection point it was time to head for home with that Christmas feeling inside.
