In the cool of the early morning I drove to the Monrovia car show. I parked at the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Huntington Drive in order to meet up with Jay Miller, Chuck Lakowski, a new member with his 1974 Jensen Healey and Tim McNiff. The idea was to enter the show together and park together. We were placed on a side street in the middle of the show with shade and a cool breeze blowing all day. The main street location is great with high foot traffic however, it can be an oven, and Saturday was hot! Dick Boyd in his BJ7 arrived later, parked at another location and said he would join us later. However, after a few adult beverages he forgot about moving his car to join us. He and Sheila did come and visit with us.
This is a great show, only five blocks long with portions of side streets, with about 300 cars and vendors galore. A mobile DJ with great tunes kept the crowd entertained as they checked out the various vehicles. We had visitors come by to chat and take pictures. Just to mention a few: Bill Wilkerson and Jimmie Davis from the Inland Empire, Steve Gerow and Louis Fisher from Altadena, and local boy Bob Gomez. Past Austin Healey club member and newsletter editor Domenic Valentino won first place in his class with his Snap On inspired vintage 1951 Metro step van.
I plan to be back again next year.
