Happy April Fools’ day. I suspect like myself, you’re glad spring is here, and Mother Nature isn’t having her own joke.
It has certainly been a wet winter. On a positive note, at least we don’t have 650-700+ inches of snow like Mammoth and Lake Tahoe, keeping us from getting our cars on the road. We can get our cars out and blow out the carbon that has collected from a lack of spirited drives. If you get a chance, you should take a drive through the hills and check out the wildflowers. It should be EPIC this year.
Key Gatherings- If you didn’t get a chance to join us, Mike Scroggie did another great job coordinating the Dana Point Festival of Whales. A little drizzle but, as usual, a beautiful day with lots of interest in the cars on display.
Upcoming are a couple of Club events on April 15th and 23rd that are reported on in Greg Aden’s article. Also, we have the Seal Beach car show on April 29th. These should all be great events. We have a great group of club members and friends participating in these events.
New Members- Please join me in welcoming two new members- Michael Clark of La Crescenta and Brian Boals of Newbury Park.
Michael has a modified ‘67 Mk3. He says that he's a new owner and is looking to learn. Brian Boals has a 1961 BT7 Mk1. Please join me in welcoming them to our family.
Future events/ get-togethers- Our members heading to Norway for EHW dropped their cars of at the shippers on March 10th. After the drop off, the folks had a great lunch gathering despite the rain. Next stop- Norway in a couple of months.
CHW 2023- The GGAHC continues preparation for California Healey Week (CHW) in Lake Tahoe.
CHW 2023 is planned for September Sept 18th through Sept 22nd. If you have not signed up, please do so. It should be a great time in a beautiful location. As a reminder, A key activity at CHW will be the raffling or auctioning off of an early BN-1 “barn find” that the GGAHC has acquired. We’re still waiting on the details and will keep you posted as they become available.
CHW 2024- The planning/ coordination for CHW 2024 has started. As you know we rotate between desert, mountains, and the coast. Next years event is being planned for the coast. We have pulled together the Request for Proposal and have sent it to several venues and waiting to hear back. The plan is to have our selection made this summer and announce it at CHW in Tahoe. If you have any recommendations, please send me a note With a heavy Heart- We lost 3 long time members this last month. Gunny (Chic) Linde passed away.
Gunny is a true American hero having served in the Marines in both Korea and Vietnam. We also lost truly loving and kind souls in Kathy McHarris and Teddy Rocke. If you may recall, Ken Rocke was a prior president of AHASC who passed last year. Please keep Gunny, Kathy and Teddy and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
I hope to see you at the cars and coffees and our gatherings/drives.
