Laguna Beach Classic Car Show 10/2

Bruce Steele | Published on 10/2/2022

The October air is crisp on the early morning drive through Laguna Canyon.

Driving the canyon road is refreshing after navigating the SoCal freeways, which even at this early hour have a surprising amount of traffic. My friend Jim is accompanying me to the Laguna Beach Classic Car Show, and he keeps a hand firmly on his hat. We arrive at the parking lot and pull in with no queue, a welcome scenario. Soon, other club members arrive, John Hummer and Alice Johnson (1957 BN4), Rick and Wendy Shoemaker (1959 BN6), and Dick Ames (1960 BN7), who, along with my 1960 BN7 represent the Austin-Healey class, which our club sponsors.

Though this year’s show competed with the Central Coast British Car Club show at the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, which some club members attended, we happily represented the marque and our club. As is usually the case, our cars received a lot of interest from the attendees and exhibitors alike.

I found it interesting that each of our Healey’s is a 3000 roadster, with not a 100 nor a convertible in attendance. As for judging, I learned from the judges that originality was the primary criterion, and fortunately Rick and Dick made it relatively easy for them as they placed 1st and 2nd in class.

Congratulations on the awards!
