United Artists Theater - 1/16

Headed up to the Saturday car gathering at the United Artists Theater lot before7am. When I pulled in Phil Caliva and Chuck Lakowski were already parked. Talk about early risers; wonder when they left the South Bay? Within minutes Steve Gerow and Jeff Boysen arrived. Then Dex Kaytis arrived in his Bugeye, followed by Greg Aden and Steve Magoflin, who also drove up from the South Bay. Finally, Hema Ratnayake drove in in his 3000.

After grabbing a cup of coffee, we all compared notes on recent happenings, whose car was running well, who was having problems or repairs; all the usual gearhead stuff. Jeff was joined by his son, the educator, and two of his grandsons, Jonas and Ambrose, who are becoming cars nuts like their granddad. We also met a potential new member. He drives a very nice Spridget, which he has owned for a little over a year. Also on hand was Emil Joseph, driving one of his many British classics, and hanging out with friends.

As the sun rose higher, Dex was organizing a drive into the Angeles National Forest and then through Tujunga Canyon. His article can be read elsewhere. The idea of going higher in elevation, in the cold, didn’t appeal to me so I headed for a well-known breakfast burrito place in Burbank for a Corner Cottage burrito.
