Welcome to Spring! Hopefully you enjoyed the Super Bloom while in your Healey! We're not likely see a better wildflower season than this one in a while. Pity those poor folks stuffed into their claustrophobic Prius with the tinted windows….you had your top down, right? While the blossoms may be slowly fading, the opportunities for some good driving are not. Healey Week is upon us! If you are driving to Temecula from anywhere in OC or coastal LA county, avoid the 91 and take Ortega Highway. I know the road has a bad reputation, due largely to the unsafe conditions in years past, but if you have not driven it in a while, there have been major improvements, particularly at the summit and at the descent into Lake Elsinore. It’s one of the few last-great-driving-roads in Southern California.
Once you arrive at Healey Week, you will Cind we have two great road drives planned, not to mention the Gymkhana. The Poker Run will take us west of Temecula, through Fallbrook and up the mountain to Hell’s Kitchen. The Scenic drive will circumnavigate Palomar Mountain, with a stop in Julian, and end at Wilson Creek Winery. Plenty of pleasant Healey miles. The Gymkhana, while less than half a mile in length, will provide plenty of thrills for experienced auto crossers and newbies alike.
I am pleased to tell you that the response to Healey Week 2019 has been great. We have over 100 attending and participation rates in all events are very high. Frankly, I was a little nervous about our Cirst “all weekday” event, but we have exceeded our initial expectations by a substantial margin and sold out our room block twice! Hopefully you have registered and booked your room by now, but if not, there is still a very small window of opportunity. Registrations will close at midnight on Monday, May 6 (next Monday!) in order to allow us to prepare for all our guests. Register online only at this point, as your mail in registration will not be received in time. You can register online and pay by credit card, or mail in your check if you prefer. The hotel is not fully booked, but likely will no longer honor our $119 room rate. But you can ask.
