On March 2-4th AHA members Corkey Holt, Chris Keen, Matt Meyer, Don Newman and I showed our Healey’s at the 2nd Annual LA Classic Car Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The show is sponsored by the Velocity Channel and was a great event showcasing numerous So Cal classic car clubs and hundreds of cars.
We had to have our cars at the Convention Center between 9 and 11 AM on Thursday so Corkey, Don and I decided to take the surface streets to downtown LA from the South Bay to miss the morning commuter traffic. It was an adventure as we passed through South Central LA but we all made it and had the cars placed in time.
Friday was a rainy day with light attendance and Corkey and George Merino put in yeoman duty manning the booth. We had a great time viewing all the various types of cars on display and meeting numerous other car people.
Saturday was a better day with what appeared to be a much larger attendance. It was also the designated club day with lunch at the local Hooters Restaurant; and was attended by club members Larry Bryant, Charlie Hart, Bill Hoyt, Cathy Newman, Mark Sutter, Mike Scroggie, Tony Trentacost, and Bert Van Brande, in addition to those showing cars and manning the booth.
Special thanks to Mike Scroggie for spending several hours with us in the booth.
Sunday was another day with large attendance, but since the arena was so large it was hard to tell until you saw the crowd at the Velocity celebrity stage. We had several people come by trying to buy our cars, especially Chris Keen’s beautifully restored Factory 100M.
We had a steady stream of people at the booth all three days, in fact we ran out of club business cards and membership applications so hopefully we will have signed up several new members.
The club has been invited to again have a booth at next year’s Show at the end of March. Keep it in mind, we will be looking for different great cars from club members next year.
