On October 8th AHA members Ed Neumeyer, Chuck Lakowski, Marty Hovivian, Bob Farnsworth, and myself attended the Annual San Diego British Car Day show next to the Bay at Spanish Landing along with 220+ other British cars. The smallish venue was packed to the gills, as they say, with the entrants and they ran out of space. Ed, Bob, and I brought our Big Healey’s, Chuck had his Jensen Healey and Marty, one of his Jaguar’s.
It was a beautiful Sunday with the temperatures in the mid 70’s and a nice ocean breeze. Those who chose not to attend missed a great gathering of British car history. With over 30 different classes and some mixed together it was an ordeal trying to see all of the cars and decide the best in each class. There were 11 Big Healey’s and 5 Sprites present so the marque was well represented. A just-completed nut- and-bolt restored 1955 Green BN2 was the Big Healey class winner and a beautiful Old English White Bugeye, the Sprite winner. It was also great to see all the general public that showed up and packed the already full venue. Hopefully more club members will choose to attend next year’s show.
p.s. With the following day being Columbus Day the traffic was light coming back and I made it back to the South Bay in just over two hours driving time.
