From the Vice President

Published on 8/1/2017

Here is my first column and I have some big shoes to fill as they say, both figuratively and actual (size 13 I think), as Steve did an excellent job in keeping the membership informed as to what was going on and adding new and exciting events for the club to attend.

Hopefully I can continue in his stead.

As usual there is a lot of car stuff to do in August in addition to getting your cars ready for Monterey in September.  This month we have one official club event at Enderle Center in Tustin on August 20th that will be hosted by Tim McNiff; as well as the usual monthly get together’s at Peninsula, Belmont Shore, San Clemente, Inland Empire, Supercar Sunday, United Artists Theater, Golden Cove and the Petersen Museum.  WHEW!! No one has an excuse that there is no place to show your Healey each month!! I attended the Cars and Coffee at the San Clemente Outlet Mall on July 8th and there was a huge turnout of cars just about filling up the large parking area provided and it looks like they can expand it if necessary.  There also was a coffee and pastry tent set up as well as a Ruby’s Diner right next to it for breakfast if needed.  I also noticed an adjacent parking area full of spectator cars as well, so we are replacing the defunct Aliso Viejo gathering with this event on the second Sunday on the calendar.

There is an additional small event in Dana Point on August 20th where Mike Scroggie has been asked to provide 12 British Cars for a small car show in conjunction with a British Invasion Concert.  We know that it is the same day as Enderle and Golden Cove but if you would like to spend the afternoon at the Ocean and listen to great music let Mike know ASAP as he only has two cars signed up.

September looks like another very busy month with the International Healey Week, another car show in Dana Point on the 17th right after we get back from Monterey and the next club event the 9th Annual English Motors at Fairbrook show on September 24th in Fallbrook in addition to the monthly gatherings.

I would like to make a special shout out to Peggy Kaytis who underwent major back surgery in June and is currently recovering at home and hopefully she will get back on her feet soon and be able to drive her Yellow Bugeye that Dexter is having upgraded for her.

If you have ideas for a Club event, please drop me a note.  I will appreciate having a folder full of good future events.
