Distinguished British Cars Show 1/25

The plan for the morning was to meet at the Griffith Park Cars and Coffee for an hour and then drive down to the Petersen Museum for their Distinguished British Cars Show. That changed very quickly when I arrived at the parking lot to join the Kaytises and Phil Caliva. The parking lots were overflowing with the cars of runners taking part in events at the park. The coffee and donut truck was moving to another location as had many of the classics. An instant decision was made to head for the 3rd Street Farmers Market and breakfast at Dupars.

A surface street drive through the park, the Cahuenga Pass and Hollywood soon brought us to Dupars.

We parked our four Healeys opposite the entrance, creating a miniature car show, and went in for breakfast. After we finished off three servings of corned beef hash with eggs and hash browns, a short stack of the famous pancakes with a side of one egg and one rasher of bacon, copious amonts of coffee and hot tea, we were ready for the Petersen Museum.

When we pulled in, we were directed to the fourth level parking where we claimed four of the few remaining parking spots. Shortly after our arrival Peter Roses drove in and joined us. Greg Aden moved his bugeye from his original parking spot to join us, and we soon had a Healey corner of the roof staked out. A red BJ8 with a couple of Central Coast British club members parked across from us. One of the pair, Frank Powell, also a member of the AHASC, was asked about his car (originally owned by his father) and sadly replied, “wrecked.” A walk around the fourth parking level brought us in contact with early arriving members who were scattered about the show: Ron Fine, Steve Beck, Dan Bleiberg, and  George Merino all had driven their cars. Also on hand was an interesting green, highly-modified roadster that was not a club member’s car. Two Friends-of-the-Club were on hand with their British iron: Frank Nesta with his Morgan and Sandy Bettleman with his one-off AC Cobra prototype.

A lot of visiting took place, many discussions about the San Diego Healey week, and of course, what was the latest parts purchase or modification on their car. The sun came out from behind the clouds and as the time passed 11:00am people started heading out including me. A really fun morning!
