From the President

Here we are in the  middle or winter- Sort of... Sadly, I  suspect you have taken down the holiday decorations and put them away and now we settle in for the early dark evenings and dark mornings and chilly weather waiting for warmer and longer days. The upside is we are in SoCal, so we don’t have to retire the cars for the whole of winter. We can still get them out for the Cars & Coffee events and other regular gatherings. Plus there is the planning and anticipation of our upcoming activities – Festival of the Whales, Queens English, Seal Beach and more with CHW2026 in 3 months. So..... lots to do to get our cars ready.

CHW 2026- It’s hard to believe- we are only a little more than three months away from CHW2026. As a reminder, the festivities are planned for May 5th- 9th at the Island Palms Resort and Marina on Shelter Island, San Diego,  so check your calendars and go ahead and sign up if you haven’t already. We have 60 attendees signed up so far including folks from the Golden Gate, San Diego, and Oregon clubs as well. Please take the time to check out the event information on our club website and sign up. As with all of Steve Kirby’s planned activities, it will be a lot of fun, so I hope you can join us.

Person of Interest- As mentioned last month,  we have included our person of interest write- up for Alice Johnson – Our club secretary  (retiring) and our own Julie of the Love Boat personality. Next month our person of interest will be Monica Lago-Kaytis. Monica is fairly new to the club, Married to Clay Kaytis/ Dex Kaytis’s daughter-in-law. She purchased her Healey (Bugeye Sprite) last year. If you know Monica, she is bigger than life and the perfect match for Clay (who’s quiet, soft spoken, and understated).

So, if you have any fun Monica and Clay stories, please let me know.

New Members- Please join me in welcoming two new members- Phillip Capon, and Brian Chinnock. Phillip is from Torrance and has a 59 AN5 and Brian is from Horseshoe Bay TX. and has a 67 BJ8 Mk3. Welcome guys! As always, when considering having work done on your cars, please consider our sponsors. They help our club and provide rare (albeit vanishing) and needed services and products.

As always, safe motoring, stay well and you may want to start getting those beauties ready for spring. It’s less than 2 months ‘til the Festival of Whales in Dana Point- early March.
