The 53rd edition of the annual Dana Point Festival of Whales was held over the weekend of March 2nd and 3rd. As a tradition, we held the “British Invasion” car show of classic British car marques, along with the classic Corvettes and Surf Woodies. The British classics attending included Healeys, Jaguars, Triumphs, MGs, Lotus and others. The car shows took place from 10AM through 3PM in the afternoon.
As usual for March, weather complicated the weekend with sporadic rain on Saturday and Sunday. Due to the weather, our show location was changed twice, and we ended up in a paved parking lot adjacent to the harbor. We were expecting about 35-40 British cars, and about half that number showed up. The Corvettes had about the same turnout and the Surf Woodies were no-shows...they don’t go out even in high humidity! We had rain in the early morning, but it stopped by the time I drove to Dana Point for the show. Once there, I parked along with three other British cars and, soon afterward, it poured for about 15 minutes (see photo). We wiped down our cars and the other (brave) participants arrived, and the weather cooperated (no rain) for the remainder of the day.
Attending were Mike Biss & Anna Johansson in their BN1, Tom Biss in his Lotus, Van Schultz in his BN1 Lemans, Tony Trentacost in his BJ8, Dex Kaytis (and son) in his 3000, Bob Bolling (and son) in his 3000, Phil Caliva in his BJ8, Steve Heck in his 3000 and Mike & Kathy Scroggie (and daughter Kerry) in their BN1.
All-in-all it was a pleasurable day with a lot of interesting festival activities and good foot traffic and interest in our classics.
